For Cindy Dawson at White Bluff Ace Hardware in White Bluff, Tennessee, it was one of the most stressful days since she started in the hardware industry in 1988. After running her business strictly on paper since the day she bought it, she had finally decided, in the fall of 2014, it was time to bite the bullet and bring in some software.
As she freely admits, Cindy knew little about technology but she was only too aware that her choice of software could well turn out to be a make-or-break decision for her store and its future.
After looking at three different programs, Cindy took a deep breath and made her decision: the RockSolid system from ECi Software Solutions.

“The people at RockSolid were just great to work with from day one and the software seemed to be exactly what I was looking for,” she recalls. “It looked like it would be easy enough for someone who was computer-illiterate like me to learn it, it could give me all the information I wanted on the business and the fact that it was among the less expensive systems I looked at didn’t hurt, either!”
But while all the signs from Cindy’s due diligence on the program looked good, the big question still remained: Would it deliver as promised? There was a lot riding on her decision and if it turned out to be the wrong one, the consequences could be disastrous.
“Nobody could have been as nervous as I was when we started getting ready to switch,” says Cindy. “But once the training began and we started practicing on the program itself, I knew we were going to be all right. By the time we finished the training and went live on RockSolid, it felt like we’d been using it forever!”

Fast forward and Cindy and her team couldn’t begin to imagine how they could run the business without RockSolid. “It has helped us on so many different levels,” she reports happily. “We had our best year last year, but thanks to RockSolid, we didn’t need to hire any more people to handle the extra business. We’re moving customers through the checkout faster and there’s just a lot less paperwork in general that we have to deal with—everything gets done so much more efficiently than it used to.”
Any nerves Cindy may have had about automating the business are long gone. “RockSolid is the kind of program that allows me to focus on what’s really important for my business,” she says. “I don’t need to be a computer expert to run it, it gives me all the information I need quickly and easily.”
And on those rare occasions when some kind of technical question comes up, she knows that help is just a phone call away. “RockSolid’s technical support is fantastic,” she says. “They’re very knowledgeable and responsive whenever I call and I haven’t even had to call that often—less than six times in the past year and there was nothing very serious.”

For Cindy Dawson and her team, timing on the move to RockSolid could not have been better. Business is stronger today than it’s ever been and they’re getting ready to put an expansion on their store and add a whole new department.
Not so long ago, all that would have put a major strain on the entire organization but now, it’s a whole lot easier.
